Diane Birch Business Coaching Solutions  How can I manage my time so that I still get everything done and have a life?

Q:
My wife is moaning because I’m up all hours on my computer and we are always getting disturbed by phone calls, there’s never enough time in the day to get everything done and I have no social life!

A:
This is a very common complaint of small business owners and when I start to delve into the structure of their day it seems that in most cases they are able to be where they are supposed to be, do what they need to do and in the time they need to do it. So it’s not that they can’t manage their time, it’s that the structure of the business isn’t supporting them, they lack the necessary processes to help them and they are unsure of the priorities that the business should be working towards so what should be important isn’t and they continue to fire fight instead of plan ahead.

Once we have established an inspiring vision and developed the strategies to achieve it, the implementation plan falls out of it and the priorities become clear. This leads to effective delegation which in turn frees you up to focus on the matters that really do require your attention. However, a plan is just a set of linear steps if it isn’t supported by defined goals that are achievable and objectives that are measurable.

This all sounds like another mountain of things to do, but by avoiding it you will continue to lack the control you need to drive your business to success.

Stop working in the business and make time to work ON it! Doing this will give you back the ‘control’ you continue to say you have by trying to do everything and running around like a headless chicken.
